Flag - Rhodesia - (1968 - 1979)
Rhodesia was an African state from 1965 until 1979, this flag being used from 1968 until 1979. In the late 19th century the territory was chartered to the British South Africa Company, led by Cecil Rhodes. On June 28th,1890 Rhodes sent a Pioneer Column to occupy lands to the north, and on September 12th of that year they stopped at a meadow nearly 400 miles from where they started. The date would be celebrated as a Rhodesian national holiday beginning in the 1920s when Rhodesia became the British Colony of Southern Rhodesia.

Southern Rhodesia was merged into the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1953. A decade later the federation was broken up by de-colonialism with Northern Rhodesia becoming Zambia and Nsayaland becoming Malawi. Southern Rhodesia declared it's independence as the State of Rhodesia.

British immigrants had taken the territory from a poor backwoods farming economy to an industrial giant with manufacturing, mining and iron & steel production built around several large cities.

During it's existence Rhodesia was engaged in the Rhodesian Bush War, between the Rhodesian Government and marxist forces led by black nationalists trained and equipped by Soviets and China as a proxy during the Cold War. One such leader, Robert Mugabe, would come to gain control of the country when it was renamed The Republic of Zimbabwe.

The new country, ruled by the black majority and a socialist government engaged in anti-white retribution, blamed it's economic troubles on Western capitalists and would be suspended from the Commonwealth of Nations in 2002 for violations of international law. Under Mugabe the government was responsible for wide spread human rights abuse, encouraging black nationalists to violently seize white owned farms calling white Rhodesians blood-sucking exploiters. as well as settler vermin and calling for the execution of white Rhodesians.

The new one-party marxist government's policy of farm seizure lead to famine, and corruption lead to economic decline and international sanctions. Before being replaced in a coup in 2017 Mugabe, and his marxist government had been responsible for the deaths of at least 10,000 civilians.
