Flag - 4th Kentucky Orphan Brigade
Flag of the 4th Regiment of the Kentucky Orphan Brigade. The term "orphan brigade" was used during the war but didn't become popular until afterwards. The name illustrated how the Confederacy viewed it's soldiers from Kentucky as it was a state represented by a star on the Confederate flag but the state remained mainly under Union control.

The Orphan Brigade was active during the whole war and participated in notable battles such as Shiloh, Stones River, the Atlanta Campaign and the Carolinas Campaign.
