"Sharpshooters, like fiddlers, are born, not made." - Maj. Gen. Ambrose P. Hill, CSA
The 2nd Georgia Battalion Sharpshooters were formed in the summer of 1862 with 6 companies. It numbered 152 by December of that year. At Chickamauga it was down to 101 men and by December of 1863 it had dwindled down to 80. The sharpshooters carried on until they surrendered with the Army of Tennessee at the end of the war.
