Flag - North Carolina State 1885 - Present
3'x5' The post 1885 flag replaced the flag of 1861 which was adopted when NC left the union. The 1885 flag of N.C. differs in that the initials N and C were added, and the dates of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (May 20, 1775) and of the Halifax Resolves (April 12, 1776) were placed inside ribbons. Also, the 1861 version had a field of half blue and white with a red canton which was replaced with a field of half red and white with a narrower blue canton.

The official salute to this flag is "I salute the flag of North Carolina and pledge to the Old North State love, loyalty, and faith."
