Flag - Louisiana 1861
Before the Civil War the state of Louisiana didn't have an official flag. That changed on February 11th of 1861 when the first flag was officially adopted, replacing different unofficial flags then in use. The Canton was red with a yellow star representing Spanish colors, while the stripes were red, white and blue representing French colors with the whole design reminiscent of the US flag. Often referred to as the Louisiana Republic Flag, this flag was used when Louisiana was a state in the Confederacy and not an independent republic.
