Dug Civil War Bullet
You can own an authentic piece of the Civil War! We have a limited number of FIRED Civil War bullets dug in middle Tennessee. Each bullet is different, but all will show the distinctive rings around the base of the Minie Ball, a type of bullet used during the war. You will receive a random bullet, but most are .69 caliber or type 3 Williams Cleaner bullets. Each comes in a black display case with glass front.

The Minie Ball was invented shortly before the start of the war and was different than the previously used musket ball in several ways. Firstly, though called a Minie Ball, it is not round! Minie Balls are cone shaped, with three rings at the base which held grease and a hollow base. When fired the base would expand into the rifled barrels coming into use, the grease and the rings would also help clean any powder left in the barrel as it exited. This new design created a higher muzzle velocity and greater range and accuracy. The hollow base not only allowed the bullet to grip the rifling, but also required less lead than a solid projectile which reduced cost.
