The 38th Regiment of Alabama Volunteers was organized in May of 1862 around Mobile where it spent a year before the regiment's 830 men were sent to Tullahoma as part of the Army of Tennessee. It fought at Hoover's Gap, and lost men at Chickamauga. After fighting at Lookout Mountain it fought at Missionary Ridge where men, suppliers and their flag were captured. The regiment was spared at Franklin when it was put on readguard before fighting at Nashville. The regiment was finally surrendered at Meridian, MS on May 4th of 1865 with only 80 men remaining.
