The First Corps of the Army of Tennessee was created in November of 1862 and continued until it's surrender in May of 1865. It was first led by Lt. Gen. Leonidas Polk, second cousin of President Polk. Lt. Gen. Polk had been an Episcopal Bishop and is often referred to as the Fighting Bishop.
Though the flag is usually called Polk's Flag Polk led the First Corps until 1863, afer which command would be passed between Maj. Gen. Cheatham, Lt. Gen. Hardee and Maj. Gen. Cleburne.
