Flag - South Carolina Sovereignty
On Dec. 20th, 1860 South Carolina seceded from the Union. For a time this flag was flown around South Carolina, becoming known as the Sovereignty Flag.

Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of Feb. 2nd, 1861 showed a drawing of Alumni Hall at Yale University on January 20th of that year and reported that "On that Sunday morning in New Haven, students and faculty awoke to find a large secession banner – a Southern cross emblazoned with a Carolina palmetto and crescent moon – flying from one of the twin Gothic turrets of Alumni Hall.
