The Bucks of America were an all-black militia company operating around Boston during the revolution. Little is known about them as records of their activities are scarce, but it's believed they served as guards in the city. The flag consists of a blue canton of 13 stars, a stag leaping beneath the revolutionary symbol of a pine tree with a banner below showing the name Bucks of America and a banner above with the initials J. G. W. H., for John George Washington Hancock, son of Massachusetts Governor John Hancock who presented the flag to the group during a ceremony in Boston.
