Flag - 36th Alabama Volunteers
Organized at the Mount Vernon Arsenal on May 12th, 1862 the 36th Alabama Infantry served until surrender at Meridian, MS in April of 1865.

After being organized the 36th built defenses until sent to Mobile, where they stayed from August of 1862 until April of 1863 when it was sent to Tullahoma to join the Army of Tennessee. They fought at Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge before wintering in Georgia. In 1864 they went on to fight in the Atlanta Campaign and then the fighting in Franklin and Nashville, TN. Afterwards the remnants of the regiment were sent back to Mobile where 6,000 Confederates held off 45,000 Federals in the spring of 1865 until finally surrendering to Federal forces that April.
