Based on a surviving example of an early Georgia State Flag in the collection of the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, this flag conforms to the 1861 statues that militia regiments and battalions were to be provided with flags "bearing the arms of the State". The surviving flag shows the state's coat of arms on a red field.
