Also known as the 33rd Partisan Rangers, the 2nd LA Cavalry consisted of 10 companies (A - K, except for J) who remained in Louisiana for the duration of the war, tasked with picket and scout duty as well as clearing southern Louisiana of jayhawkers, a term used for guerilla fighters. The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 2,048 men belonging to the regiment.
