Flag - Freikorps - Iron Brigade
After 1918 the Freikorps were a paramilitary group formed in Germany and the Baltics to fight against communism and have often been called shock troops. The most famous of these groups was the Iron Brigade. Their motto Und Doch translates to Nevertheless. This was meant to signify that though the war had been lost they would regroup and fight again.

The freikorp groups were banned for political reasons in 1921 and some would even face war crime charges. During the rise of National Socialism these charges were often reversed and freikorp fighters were seen as heroes and the freikorp movement again began to gain steam during the last years of WWII.
